Even though 2020 has been a very tumultuous year for the music industry, many artists have thankfully still been able to put new music out. As of mid-October, there are still quite a few big albums from top artists that are scheduled to be released. In this article, we’ll run through some of the most hotly anticipated albums that fans will no doubt be keen to get their hands on.
Ariana Grande - Positions
Positions is Ariana Grande’s fifth studio album and is scheduled to be released on 30 October with its lead single, also titled Positions, supposedly getting released just a week earlier. This will be the singer's third album in as many years and very little is known about it as of the time of writing. Rumours have been swirling, of course, and the collection will apparently have 14 tracks, three are meant to be collaborations with the likes of Ty Dolla $ign, Doja Cat and The Weeknd. Ariana has been drip-feeding teases about the album through her social media and has filmed already filmed some music videos to be released in due course.
Sam Smith - Love Goes
Love Goes is also set to be released on 30 October and will be Sam’s third album, following the hugely successful In the Lonely Hour (2014) and The Thrill of It All (2017). The album was originally meant to come out in June and was titled To Die For, though the name was changed because Sam felt it insensitive to include the word ‘Die' when so many people were being killed by the coronavirus. The standard version of the album features a total of 17 tracks, including the singles ‘Diamonds’, ‘How Do You Sleep?’, ‘I’m Ready (with Demi Lovato)’ and ‘Dancing with a Stranger (with Normani)’.
Miley Cyrus - She Is Miley Cyrus
This is Miley Cyrus’ seventh studio album and is meant to be coming out in November. It was originally supposed to be a trilogy of EPs - the first one in the planned series, She Is Coming, came out in May last year. Several factors contributed to the delay of the next two EPs, namely Miley’s surgery on her vocal cords, her marriage to Liam Hemsworth breaking down and, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic. Plans changed, and the singer is bringing out a full-length album instead of two EPs.
Little Mix - Confetti
The girl group are currently searching for a support act for next year’s tour with their own TV show Little Mix The Search and this tour will be supporting the group's sixth album Confetti. It’s their first album since 2018’s creatively titled LM5 and has so far had two singles released: ‘Break Up Song’ and ‘Holiday’. Fans can look forward to listening to this album when it becomes available on 6 November.
Shawn Mendes - Wonder
Wonder is set to be the Canadian singer-songwriter’s fourth studio album. It’s coming out on 4 December and has been preceded by a single of the same name. To further promote the album, Shawn is releasing a Netflix documentary titled In Wonder on 23 November. This documentary is a look at the singer’s past few years, giving viewers a glimpse into the singer’s life both on and off stage.
BTS - BE
The hugely popular seven-member boy band from South Korea are gearing up to release their second album this year, following Map of the Soul: 7. The band’s newest album, simply titled Be, is their fifth collection of Korean-language tracks and their ninth album overall. They were meant to be spending most of 2020 on tour promoting their previous album, but because of the pandemic, they had to cancel it and instead spent their time producing their new album. It was preceded by the critically and commercially successful single ‘Dynamite’, the band’s first English-language release.
